What motivates the public to take an interest in heritage? Mobilize to save an endangered building? To feel concerned by old stones or modern buildings? How do professionals determine their intervention strategies for existing buildings? Claudine Houbart is passionate about this "collective affair", and has made it the heart of her profession.

With degrees in Architecture and Art History and Archaeology, she also holds a doctorate in Engineering Sciences. She teaches History and Heritage Theory at Faculté d'Architecture , where she is a researcher with the Art, Archéologie et Patrimoine (AAP) unit. With Daniela Prina, she co-created the DIVA research group, dedicated to the documentation, interpretation and valorization of heritage, with an interdisciplinary approach - since philosophy, human sciences, literary theories and digitization methods offer complementary insights into heritage. Claudine Houbart is particularly interested in the process of developing doctrinal documents.

The architect has also held governance positions within the Faculty of Architecture, where she was President of the Permanent Faculty Commission for Research (CPFR) and then Vice-Dean for Research. She represents Belgium on the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Conservation Theory and Philosophy and is a member of the Association of Critical Heritage Studies.
